Serge and I have been pooling our ideas and have decided that we most definitely want to be growing and storing and making most of our own foods within the next two years.
As a consequence we are now saving all our funds toward the purchase of an organic farm. We don’t need millions of acres, we don’t even need thousands. Just a small, quiet plot with good sun exposure and a natural wind barrier.
We’ll call our farm Solas na Cruinne, which is Irish for “Light of the Universe”. Because isn’t a healthy, sustainable way of living something that can truly light us up inside? And doesn’t the light of the sun and moon and stars fill up all that we grow with that certain unknown magic of life?
The plan is to get some acreage in one of the countries that we love (which is to be determined at some later date) and build an eco-building of some kind, most likely of cob and round timbers, grow food the permaculture way and use passive solar for heat, use composting toilets and grey-water treatment, grow an organic orchard and some chickens, etc…
So, like dreamers everywhere, we are anxious to get this one off the ground (or into the ground.) We are asking loyal readers, friends and family to contribute to making our dream come true.
